RN & LPN Scopes of Practice – Ohio
Ohio Revised Code 4723 and Ohio Administrative Code 4723 are the law and rules that govern nursing practice in Ohio. The ORC (law) and OAC (rules) are available online in their entirety. The ORC and OAC can change at any time based on passed legislation. Additionally, the rules in the OAC are reviewed at least every 5 years and changes may occur. Nurses should access the ORC and OAC regularly and ensure knowledge of what is contained.

Ohio Board of Nursing
The Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) is the regulatory entity for all nurses in Ohio. OBN is responsible for the rules in OAC 4723. OBN offers many resources to nurses in Ohio on their website. Additionally, all OBN meetings are open to the public.
