Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Nurses Association (ONA), along with AFT applauds the House for the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82), repealing provisions that have unfairly reduced Social Security benefits for millions of public employees.
Rick Lucas, BSN, RN, CCRN, ONA President and Executive Director issued the following statement in response the House ‘Yes’ vote on H.R. 82:
“For too long, public service workers, including Ohio’s nurses and health professionals, have faced unjust cuts to their Social Security benefits due to the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset,” said Lucas. “ONA, working alongside our national union AFT, thanks Ohio’s congressional delegation for their support and reinforces our collective efforts to correct this inequity, ensuring dignity and security for retirees who have devoted their careers to serving others.”
“Now, the Senate must take swift action to pass this vital legislation,” said Lucas. “ONA’s commitment to retirement security and economic fairness for health professionals remains central to our mission, and we will continue advocating for policies that respect the sacrifices of working families and provide the retirement benefits they have rightfully earned.”
