FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 20, 2024

Coshocton, Ohio – Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and a Surgical Tech (ST) at Coshocton Regional Medical Center won their union election, affiliating with ONA and AFT, to improve staffing and have a voice in the workplace.

“This unionization effort highlights the critical roles LPNs and STs play in patient care,” said Carrie Meyers, LPN, Coshocton Regional Medical Center. “We are looking forward to negotiating our contract with the hospital to gain more professional respect and better working conditions to serve our community better.”

The LPNs and ST overwhelmingly voted to unionize 11 to 2. Their main priorities are having a union voice that will be respected and heard, better scheduling that will guarantee safe patient care loads, and fair and equitable wages.

The LPNs and ST union is the second union to form at the medical center. Currently, there 50 RNs also unionized.

“ONA and AFT are thrilled to welcome Coshocton Regional Medical Center’s LPNs and ST to our union,” said Rick Lucas, BSN, RN, CCRN, ONA President and Executive Director. “Together, we continue to build the collective power needed to effectively advocate for safe staffing, wages that will retain and recruit experienced health professionals, and the respect that is deserved for the profession.”

Once results are certified, members will begin the process of negotiating their first contract with the medical center.
