FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 3, 2025
Coshocton, Ohio – In a monumental step, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Surgical Technologists at Coshocton Regional Medical Center, represented by the Ohio Nurses Association (ONA) and AFT, have voted overwhelmingly to ratify their first union contract, marking a significant step forward in their fight to improve staffing and have a stronger voice on the job.
The contract vote comes just one year after the group organized with ONA and reflects growing momentum among health professionals statewide demanding change. Key wins in the agreement include:
- Wages and Benefits Tied to Staffing Needs: This contract establishes a fair wage scale, differential pay, and improved tuition reimbursement—all directly tied to recruiting and retaining staff to reduce unsafe workloads and provide better care to the community.
- A Powerful Union Voice: Workers secured meaningful, protected rights to have a voice in workplace decisions—laying the groundwork for lasting improvements for both patients and staff and advancing long-overdue professional recognition.
“Our first contract values our work and gives us a solid structure to build our union,” said Kim Dotson, Vice-President of the union. “We’re ready to use our union voice to hold the hospital accountable to their commitments in our contract.”
The 14-member bargaining unit, formed in June 2024, organized to address long-standing concerns around working conditions, pay equity, and the need for genuine input in decisions that affect patient care.
“This first contract is a testament to the power of collective action,” said Rick Lucas, ONA President and Executive Director. “These health professionals stood united to demand the respect and dignity they deserve—and they’ve sent a clear message to hospital executives that the union voice is here to stay and will relentlessly advocate for patients and workers alike.”
The three-year agreement went into effect May 31, 2025 and will remain in place until May 31, 2028.
