During convention, ONA membership elected Brian Burger, MSN, RN from Cincinnati the new ONA president and leader of the association.
Brian has been involved with ONA for many years. He was introduced to the association when he began working at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he quickly became involved with his local unit leadership. Brian recently graduated with his MSN and after spending 15 years at the medical center, Brian moved on to join the team at Beacon Orthopaedics as an APRN.
When asked what he would tell new nurses joining the profession, Brian gave the following advice:
- Join your state professional organization and stay involved.
- Be a voice of the voiceless. Be an advocate, rather it be at the bedside, at the statehouse, or at the Nation’s Capital.
- Don’t forget where you came from. We are a team; don’t get an ego.
- Give back to nursing, whether it is precepting, teaching clinicals, or being a mentor.
